I decided on the name "The Tune of Life" for my book after much thought and deliberation. At the start of my writing I thought the book could serve as a guide for young flute students, explaining in simple terms how to play the flute most relaxingly and effectively. I thought of including simple exercises that would help improve playing as well as an out outlook on this "piece of tubing", as my esteemed professor Michel Debost used to refer to it. I decided therefore to call the book "The Tune of the Flute". The flute was always present throughout my life, and has led me on exciting and fulfilling adventures. But very quickly after I began to develop my ideas, I again and again found that I was confusing the words "flute" and "life". In Hebrew both words start with the sound CH - as in Chalil (flute) and Chaim (life). I felt that my book held within it so much more than the subject of playing alone, and when the name "The Tune of Life" came to me I knew it was perfect. It had in it the two important words: "Tune" which represents the music in our life and world, and the word "Life" which can be seen as a verb or as a noun.
I recently found the same name in a number of other disciplines: in 2016 Cambridge University Press published a book called "Dance to the Tune of Life" on the subject of Biological Relativity. La Musique d`une Vie by Andrai Makine or Music of a Life is a 2001 novella by the French writer Andreï Makine. A tale of Soviet oppression. I also found an Israeli artist from Sderot called Eliran Galile who created a work of art he titled "The Tune of Life". It is an abstract painting of musical instruments and a couple dancing. On Chabad's website I found a book that came out in New York in 200 also called "The Tune of Life". In it are stories by the Lubavitch Rabbi Adapted by Dovid Shraga Polter.
Sarit Adar published a book called "Play your Tune of Life": a book that offers the reader a different look at life - not as a rat race but as a tune by which we can set the pace. The book has short phrases to give the reader motivation as well as longer texts for reflection. This book sounds closer to mine but is targeted at adult readers and is compiled of texts alone.
The idea in which we each have an inner tune also appears in an interesting French-Belgium movie by the name of "La Comédie de Dieu" in which god controls the world via a computer he has in a special room in his apartment. God is an abusive family man with no conscience who lives in misery with his wife Mary, daughter and her brother Jesus who is a small living statue of Jesus on the cross. What is interesting to me in this movie is the ability of the 11-year old (?) daughter of god himself to hear an inner tune in each person.
I am operating very independently on all aspects of my book. I haven't yet found a trust worthy publisher or distributer. In a world of marketing, publicity and sales, I am reluctant to make changes to my book that will blemish it with any hidden or untruthful notions. I cannot see how a book that encourages listening and an attentiveness to yourself and to your inner truths can be sold in any other way but with sincerity and integrity. If you haven't yet read my book I believe that one day you will be reading, hearing or watching it through an augmented reality.
