After six years of working on my book "The Tune of Life" it is now close to going to press. I didn't plan for the book to be published until years from now, but after seeing the difficulties experienced all over the world due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the on-going lockdowns and challenges of social distancing, I feel it is the right time for it to be published. "The Tune of Life" is comprised of 31 seemingly simple sentences that lead to much thought and reflection. I arrived at the ideas through years of playing and teaching, and since I was a child I recognized the inner strength that I could derive from music. Whether it is listening, playing, composing, interpreting or improvising one can fully benefit from the effects of music and sound on our psyche. I think music is everywhere and is reflected in the way we connect with our body, soul and all that surrounds us. Music is in each breath, and rhythm is in our heartbeats.
As happens frequently in life when things are just right for us, I happened to meet the Czech artist Hana Auerova. Together we brought my book to life. This is the first step in what will become a multi-disciplinary project. I plan to develop the project over the upcoming months. The book is a beautiful work filled with visual art in dreamy colors intended to entice the reader towards an imaginary world. The reader is led on a journey by an imaginary flute - a journey aimed at listening, viewing and experiencing life at a chosen pace.
