Tamar Melzer Krymolowski, Classical flute
Jochewed Schwarz, Square piano
The square piano, Tafelklavier, was slightly more popular than the harpsichord and far more than the pianoforte during the second half of the 18th century. Its compact shape was well suited to the size of an average household room as well as its price - about a quarter of the price of the other two. Many keyboard builders resided in England and each developed a unique mechanism based on their taste and skills.
The instrument that will be used in our program is an original square piano from 1798, London.
